Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 September 2026
weintown is a private travel-availability calendar for friends and small groups. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is based on how the service actually works today.
1. Information we collect
Account and profile information. When you sign up we store your email address, a display name, an optional avatar photo, and your home city and country. You can edit these in your profile at any time.
Content you create. Trips and events you add (cities, countries, dates, notes), trip checklists and assigned items, expenses and splits, comments, and the friends, companions and followers you attach to a trip.
Social connections. Your friendships (including "close friend" status), friend requests, group memberships and roles, and invitations you send or accept — including the email address of people you invite who have not joined yet.
Location information. We store the cities and countries you enter for your trips and your home city. We use a city database and a geocoding lookup to place trips on the map. We do not track your device's GPS location or collect continuous location data.
Notification settings. Your preferences for arrival, homecoming and trip-reminder alerts, and — if you enable them on the web — a browser push subscription token so we can deliver those notifications.
Device and technical information. Standard technical data needed to run the service, such as your browser or app version and basic diagnostic/error information when something goes wrong.
2. How we use your information
- To show your trips and availability to the friends and groups you choose.
- To power the calendar and map views, including overlap and nearby-city matching.
- To send invitations, follow requests and group notifications you trigger.
- To send arrival, homecoming and trip-reminder notifications you have enabled.
- To keep your data available offline on your own device.
- To operate, secure and improve the service, and to fix errors.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not show advertising.
3. How Google sign-in data is handled
If you choose "Continue with Google", Google authenticates you and returns to us a secure token containing your Google account email address, your name and your profile picture URL. We use this only to create or sign in to your weintown account and to pre-fill your profile. We never see or store your Google password, and we do not access your Gmail, Calendar, Contacts or any other Google service data.
weintown's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Who can see your information
weintown is private by design — there are no public profiles. What others see depends on your relationship with them:
- Friends see your trip dates and destinations on the calendar and map, but cannot open the trip page unless they are a close friend or you accept their follow request.
- Close friends can open your trip pages and see full details.
- Followers of a trip see its route and dates but not costs, notes, checklists or discussion.
- Group members see trips planned with the group, trips the group follows, and your calendar only if you turn on "Share my calendar" for that group.
- Confidential trips appear to others only as "Busy" with no destination.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run weintown:
- Lovable Cloud hosts the application, the database, authentication and file storage. Your data is stored on their infrastructure.
- Google provides optional sign-in authentication and the geocoding/maps services used to place cities on the map.
- Email delivery — invitation and notification emails are sent from our domain (notify.weintown.com) through our email sending provider.
These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use browser storage (localStorage and IndexedDB) on your own device to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as saved calendar views), and cache your trips for offline use. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
7. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile page — this permanently deletes your profile, owned trips, friendships and related information. Content you contributed to other people's trips (for example expenses you added as a companion) may remain visible to them. Removing a friend preserves shared trip history.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise most of these directly in the app (editing your profile, removing trips and friends, deleting your account). For anything else, contact us at privacy@weintown.com.
9. Security
Access to data is controlled by row-level security rules in our database, so each account can only read the information it is entitled to see. Connections are encrypted in transit. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
10. Children's privacy
weintown is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International data transfers
Our service providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes we will also notify you in the app or by email.
